Salerno Research Wins Top Prize at 2019 IFT-EFFoST Workshop in Mexico
The University of Salerno achieved significant international acclaim at the 2019 International Nonthermal Processing Workshop and Short Course. Held at Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico) from November 3 to 6, this annual event is the premier global forum for non-thermal technologies, sponsored by the IFT (Institute of Food Technologists) and EFFoST (European Federation of Food Science and Technology).
Driving competitiveness in the food sector
The workshop focused on innovation as a key driver for the agri-food industry, featuring a diverse program:
- Scientific Sessions: Four oral sessions featuring invited keynote speakers and selected research presentations.
- Strategic Roundtables: Discussions centered on industrial research needs, commercialization, and the regulatory landscape for non-thermal processing.
- Short Courses: Intensive training on the state-of-the-art in process design and sensory evaluation tools.
First Prize for “Professional Oral Presentation”
The high caliber of research at University of Salerno and ProdAl was highlighted by Dominique Larrea-Wachtendorff, a third-year PhD student in Industrial Engineering at the University of Salerno. Larrea-Wachtendorff won first place in the Professional Oral Presentations category for his work titled: “Starch-based hydrogels produced by high pressure processing (HPP): Evaluation of human in vitro digestibility”.
