The olive oil sector in Campania: development factors at a glocal level

With the support of the Campania Region, ProdAl organized a conference dedicated to operators in the olive oil sector of Campania and Southern Italy, providing an important opportunity for discussion, professional updating, and in-depth analysis of the sector’s economic, technological, and training dynamics.

During the event, the results of the market research conducted by ProdAl in 2006 were presented, collected in the publication “Survey on the Role of Scientific Research and Training Needs in Campania’s Olive Oil Companies.” The document offered companies a practical tool to analyse critical issues and opportunities, as well as to guide strategies for development, innovation, and workforce training.

The conference program included presentations covering various aspects of the olive oil sector: the quality of extra virgin olive oil, with particular focus on oxygen-free extraction techniques; the application of scientific research at the secondary production level, illustrated through successful case studies; technological innovation in the agri-food sector and the role of universities and research centres of excellence in Italy; development policies for the agri-food sector in Campania and Southern Italy; and irrigation practices and production management in olive cultivation.

The event brought together scientific experts, institutional representatives, and entrepreneurs, who contributed through multidisciplinary presentations, fostering a constructive debate on innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth. The conference thus represented not only an opportunity for technical and scientific updating but also a platform for networking and sharing strategies to strengthen the local and national olive oil sector.
