Made in Italy Program (MISE)
GRECO project
The GRECO project (Global & Reliable End-to-End E-Commerce & Online Service Platform), proposed by ProdAl in collaboration with research institutions, ICT companies, and agri-food enterprises, was selected among the top 100 projects of the “Made in Italy” Industrial Innovation Program, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development.
The initiative falls under Objective Area C – Strategic Market Presence, specifically Sub-Area C3 – E-commerce and Market Intelligence Solutions, with the aim of developing innovative digital platforms to support the global competitiveness of Italian businesses.
The 36-month project focused on industrial research and experimental development of innovative solutions to support the Italian wine sector, with particular attention to promotion, marketing, and sales activities in both domestic and international markets.
Within the program, an advanced software platform was developed as an information and management best practice for all stakeholders across the value chain—from producers to logistics, commercial and distribution operators, and ultimately to end consumers.
The platform delivers an integrated and innovative approach to product promotion and commercialization, while ensuring brand protection and product authenticity, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the Italian wine sector.
Specifically, the platform provides tools and functionalities for:
- Integrated business and marketing intelligence
- Management of transactions, orders, and customer relationships
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Asset Management
- Communication Management
- Product traceability
- Document management.
Activities carried out by ProdAl
During the project, ProdAl carried out the following activities:
- Development of a data collection framework for products from partner companies, identifying critical information collection points, monitoring timelines, and required physicochemical analyses, in order to provide the essential elements for implementing the data acquisition system.
- Analysis of the process flow-sheet of the wine supply chain.
- Selection and optimization of reference analytical protocols, with particular focus on traceability data related to product quality parameters, from the grapes used through to the characterization of bottled wine and the definition of labelling for individual sales units.
- Validation of experimental protocols for analytical traceability of the supply chain and development of a monitoring and sampling plan for analytical data, covering each stakeholder and every phase of the production process.
- Analysis of global trends and developments in the wine sector.
- Definition of global wine consumer profiles, consumption occasions, and the most widely used purchasing channels (traditional retail, specialized online platforms, dedicated apps, etc.).
- Validation of the overall data collection framework, aimed at identifying, for specific consumer profiles, the information to be communicated via product labels or made available online through the platform.
- Design of multimedia wine tourism pathways, developed to meet the needs of digital users and to promote an interactive wine experience.
