Salerno’s Research Excellence in Brazil: Serena De Maria Wins Top Prize at the International Nonthermal Food Processing Workshop
The University of Salerno and the ProdAl Consortium continue to shine on the global stage. At the International Nonthermal Food Processing Workshop, held for the first time in Latin America (Florianopólis, Brazil), Salerno’s research talent was internationally celebrated with a prestigious award presented to Serena De Maria.
A global stage for Innovation
Sponsored by industry leaders IFT (Institute of Food Technologists) and EFFoST (European Federation of Food Science & Technology), this annual workshop is the premier event for non-thermal food technologies. The 2013 edition featured:
- Global Participation: Experts from the USA, Europe, Australia, and Latin America gathered to discuss competitiveness in the agri-food sector.
- Rigorous Selection: Over 150 scientific works were presented, with the Italian delegation contributing 3 oral presentations and 4 posters.
- Scientific Focus: Innovation and sustainability as key drivers for industrial growth.
Serena De Maria’s Achievement
In a highly competitive scientific environment, Serena De Maria, a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Salerno, received the Best Poster Award. Her research, titled “Application of High Hydrostatic Pressure process on food allergenic proteins,” impressed the international committee for its originality and potential impact on food safety. Due to the exceptional quality of her work, Serena was also invited to deliver an oral presentation—an honor reserved for only 6 researchers out of more than 150 participants.
